I dd the froyo update after a hard reset. Everything went fine without problems or issues.

The only issue is that the ringtone and notification sounds play very low. I can hardly hear them.
Anyone know a fix for this?

Are you familiar with where they are set in the system settings?

oh, yes. everything in settings / Sound / Volume is at the highest setting.
before the upgrade the ring tone and notification tone was plenty loud at the same settings.

Sorry to hear that. I have no simple ideas for you. I suppose you could try to find one without the upgrade and compare them to see if it really is lower. Or, you could see if a Sprint store can "test" it for you or replace it. You probably will end up with a hard reset phone. Good luck, and let us know if you resolve it or what you find out. Anyone else have an idea for him?

it sucks. it was perfectly fine before the froyo upgrade. now i can barely hear it. sometimes it comes back to the way it was for one ring then back to very low. even the pandora music is very low. it used to blast.

Maybe the 2nd update will help? It is supposed to fix issues with the first. Please see post here

I did the manual version of the update after they yanked it the first time.  There were a couple glitches but the most noticeable was that my volume was screwed.  Any sound the phone made was crazy low.  I figured out it was actually playing through the earpiece and not the speaker.  I think I found that it had something to do with the BT being enabled.  I would have to disable BT and reboot the phone.  Then all my sounds would play through the speaker . . . go figure.

I don't know if this is the same thing you're experiencing or not.  Either way I really hope they get this update correct this time.  I find myself wishing I would've just got the EVO in the first place.  Lame.

Thanks alot! that did it. Do I have to do that every time I turn the bluetooth on or is it a one shot deal until I reboot the phone again?

THANKS!

You're very welcome.  I was really hoping with the OTA update that this issue would be fixed.  It's not.  I reverted back to 2.1 from the manual update and waited for the OTA 2.2.  I got it early early yesterday morning and still am having the same exact issues with the sound.  It's complete BS.

I don't walk around with my BT in my ear all the time so now I may miss calls or texts because of it.  And if I don't restart my phone before I go to sleep then I'll miss my alarms too.  They need to fix this pronto.  It's really starting to make me wish I just would've gotten the EVO.  Sooo irritating.

Soooo . . . to follow up since I didn't really answer your question with my last post this is what I've found out.

I called *2 Sprint Customer Service just a little bit ago and asked the woman about this very issue.  She informed me that I am by no means the only one experiencing this.  She said "For lack of better expression this is happening because the update fried your phone."  So I have a replacement phone being sent to me for free.  It should be here next Monday or Tuesday.  She also told me that Sprint is pushing to have the update pulled back AGAIN since Samsung can't seem to get it right and if the new phone doesn't have the update then DON'T DO IT.  Yes, I really just typed that . . . . . .  If you have this problem then I would call *2 and let them know.

I finally got update #2 today. I guess they did not pull it. I do NOT have the volume problem. Neither does my wife. I know that does not help those that do. I feel for you.

For reference: In both our cases we...
- got the 1st push OTA then the 2nd OTA
- are NOT rooted
- have a bunch of apps
- have never done a hard reset since new

More power to you man.  I'm glad to hear that  you're not having that issue.  I've got my replacement phone yesterday.  It's got the 2.1 installed and quite frankly I don't think I'll update it to the 2.2.  The tech at the store told me don't install it whatever I do.  LOL.  That's reassuring right!?!  They said they're supposed to be re-re-releasing a 3rd version of the update that is supposed to be golden.

I love the phone.  I just want this update to be solid next time I try it.  I'm experiencing phone insecurities and I'm not diggin' it.   Big Smile

thanks for the heads up on re-booting the phone to get the speaker to work right . We  really shouldn't have to go threw this BS with this phone. If it wasn"\'t for the slide out keyboard I think I would have switched to the EVO
