I got the notification on my phone just now that Gingerbread was ready to install.

It failed during the install with the following messages:

E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted

Does anyone have any ideas what happened?  What should I do?  Thanks.

Exactly the same error message here.  I've rooted my phone and was wondering if that had anything to do with it.

I guess I just have to wait for it to offer it to me again?

You have to unroot first before you do the update.

What I did was google how to Unroot a samsung epic 4g. You basically use a program called Odin to wipe your phone and install froyo unrooted. You can then wait until sprint sends you the update over the air or you can download the update to your sd card and run the update from recovery mode. There are a bunch of YouTube videos showing the process. It's a good learning experience. When that's done you can find a procedure to root gingerbread. Be aware this will erase everything stored in internal memory. I'd suggest getting Titanium Pro backup and moving as many apps as you can to the sd card and perform a backup before wiping. When you are running a rooted gingerbread, re-install titanium pro and then restore all your stuff.
