Important Notes:
- Software updates may take approximately 10 minutes to download and 10 minutes to install; updates complete faster when connected to Wi-Fi
- Battery should be charged to approximately 50% before starting the update and should not be removed during the update
- Your device must be on the most current software version to receive the update.  Exception: for the EC05 software update, an upgrade is availalbe for
devices on oldersoftware versions.  Devices on the leaked DK28 release are not eligible for updates.
- Released in stages with 100% of devices on the most current prior release having received the update within 10 days.
- Updates are available OTA (over the air) only and are 'pushed' to devices in stages.  Device selection is random.
- If you do not receive the update, try downloading or updating an application from the Android Market.  This may trigger the software download.

Update your software:
Software will be automatically downloaded to your phone
1.  A system update screen will prompt the user to 'install now' or 'install later'
If 'install later' is selected, a reminder will be sent once or twice a day to install the update
If 'install now' is selected, the phone will power off and back on to complete the software update
OR
Check for updates
1.  Go to the Home screen
2.  Tap Menu > Settings > About phone > System updates >Update Android
3. Your phone will automatically download and install any available updates.  You may need to power your phone off and back
on to complete the software update.

Check the software version on your phone:
1.  Go to the Home screen
2.  Tap Menu > Settings > About phone
3.  The build number and software number show the current version on your phone

I have a phone at EC05.  What is the procedure to apply the magical update to make it suitable to apply the real update?

The Gingerbread update, Samsung & Sprint suck!!! Screwed my Plantronics Voyager Pro+ and GPS features not working. I have driven miles to store at least 4 times, spoken with about 10 people, including escalation to an exec who sent me a new phone, even though the problem is obviously the update. Update rolled out on new phone automatically 0_o and next thing I know I'm having issues. Have spent hours on the phone and even put on hold for 45 at a time. I left another message for the exec since they tagged my acct urgent on the 1st time out because I threatened to bring bad press to Sprint. Done doing this song & dance. They have given me no viable solutions to the problem. Short of speaking to Jesus about this situation I see no way out other than to raise hell! I spend a small fortune every month with Sprint & I can't get proper service or use the indicated features. Oh hell no!! I'm not your average customer who will just lie down & take no for an answer. They're about to get some press. I've got a news station with investigators who love issues like this!

Not sure how tech savy you are..but here is a solution. QbKing77 on youtube has some amazing videos on -How to- stuff. I suggest rolling your phone back to EC05 and then installing a custom ROM. I was running SFROM 1.2 until i made the official GB update plung. Now im on ThunderHawk 3.1 ROM and loving it, though when the ACS team has a SFROM for new GB, then ill be all over that one Happy You could even try just adding one of the new custom ROMs that support GB and im sure that will fix things.

Anyone else having problems with their phone restarting since the update?  My phone is completely stock (not rooted).

It has happened almost every evening on my drive home from work.  It happens when I have GoogleMaps running as well as having my Bluetooth headset connected (but not on a call).

I haven't called anyone yet regarding the problems I've had since the update.  Kinda afraid both Sprint AND Samsung will say it isn't their problem and can't help.

The day after the update, my phone couldn't make calls!  It took 1/2 hour to get a call through to my spouse, who has the same phone.  He also had trouble getting calls through to me that day.

I have found a few HUGE issues with the phone now.  I have vibrate completely turned off for ring and notifications, yet my phone still vibrates at random times.  There is no message or incoming anything, nothing appears to have crashed, but the phone still vibrates.  Do not like!

I also have a problem that may be related to an app I downloaded, not sure.  I really miss my Centro calendar.  It had different colors for each category of event, so I could tell at a glance if I had a doctor appointment, a rehearsal, a vacation, whatever.  So I downloaded 2 free calendar apps that I hoped would have that function.  One I didn't like and deleted it through the Settings - Manage Applications.  One was fair, and sync'd with the existing calendar.  I also tried a "busy buster" app, but it REALLY honked things up - the "Home" and "Phone" menu buttons on the home screen disappeared entirely - it only has "Applications" now.  I deleted teh busy buster app through the settings manage apps right away, and rebooted, but no good....  Still only have the "Applications" menu button.   HUH?

We don't get cell service at our house, so whenever I leave home (once a week or so) and get into a service area, I shut the phone down and take out the battery as instructed by a Sprint tech.

I did this the day after I loaded this new calendar, and suddenly half of my calendar events disappeared and half doubled.  I'm afraid to delete any more apps as I don't want to lose my appointments info again!

When I push the side power button to darken the screen and put the phone away, a pop up comes up for all the power modes - airplane, power off, etc.  Dude, I just want to put the phone away with the screen dark, not turn anything off!

If I press the "Restore Factory Settings", do I lose all the apps I have?  Some of them (NFL News specifically) are not available on the market any more!

Also, when I go on the Internet - there is no option to go to my home page!  The order of my bookmarks are weird - there is no WAY the "Most Visited Site" on my phone is some LOLCat photo I looked at 6 months ago - but that is what is listed!

The "Task Manager" thing is weird as well.  One time I exited the Internet, and the Task Manager popped up.  The ONLY THING LISTED was "Task Manager"!  WTF????

So I really don't like Gingerbread - can I go back?

Your initial install/upgrade sounds like it may have corrupted during download or install. Things is it's always iffy when doing ota updates with pre-existing data from an older build of android (but people bitch about losing their settings/apps and so companies are forced to upgrade people in a manner that is risky and causes issues for most). You need to go into a tech store and have them reflash the stock EI22 build. Do "not" let them just factory reset the phone, your system needs to be completely reinstalled. Yes you will lose your apps, I know it sucks, but your phone will run the way it should have after the update.

I have had many issues that sprint has been working on but the most important feature for me, in deciding to purchase this phone, was the ability to zoom/expand our text messages and emails.  I'm visually impaired so that was top priority in a phone purchase for me.  Since the update, the zoom/expand on text messages only, has been eliminated.  Sprint is telling me it isn't their problem, it's Samsungs.  They won't allow me to even return the phone due to it occuring with an update, out of their control.  I downloaded the suggested app (the only one out there with the ability to zoom) but it's a combo text reader/zoom feature.  Now everyone hears my text messages since there's no ability to disable the speech feature.  I simply can't use this phone without puling out a big magnifying glass which won't cut it.  Can we expect this feature to be restored at any point and time?  This phone is usless to me now as I use texting more than any other feature on the phone.

Sprint isn't blowing smoke up your ass. It really is out of their control. Samsung controls the software changes in updates. Sprint is only suppose to work on the software for carrier compatibility.

If you use HANDCENT app for messaging, you can set the font to a large or even huge size for both incoming and outgoing messages ( settings-settings-custom style- bubble settings-incoming and outgoing font- change the font size). Is not an option with the stock messaging app.
can still expand email.

The chances of finding out what really is going on are so absurdly remote that the only thing to do is to say hang the sense of it and just keep yourself occupied. DA HHGG
