I've tried putting the phone in sleep mode. The sensor is SO sensitive that any time I move my face, I'm risking the call being hung up. I have extremely important calls this week (just got the phone 5 days ago) and I have yet to have a phone call that doesn't hang up when I'm on. My cheek or face keeps touching the "hang up" button.

Is there an app or some way to completely disable the touchscreen during calls??

Please help!

It sounds like your proximity sensor is not working.  Did you cover it up with a screen protector?  My screen goes blank when I am making a call and my phone is next to my cheek or I put a finger over the prox sensor (it is located left and slight down from the "earpiece".

thanks for your response. The sprint store tested the proximity sensor - it works, so I don't know. I didn't cover it up wit ha screen protector.. do you have any recommendations of what to buy?

Putting my finger over the prox sensor works, but I can't hold it there for a long call. The only thing that has seemed to work is to take or make the call, press the home key, and then put the phone in sleep mode. That seems to work. It just seems like a lot of hoops to jump through just to have a phone call. I'm surprised that with such a sophisticated phone, it doesn't have an intuitive option to disable the touchscreen.

My display goes black instantly at about an inch from my ear, and the touch screen does not respond when this happens.  Sounds like yours is not working correctly, even though the store test showed it working. I generally do not put the phone against my face as i find that holding it and inch out, works fine for hearing and speaking and keeps smudges off the display.

The chances of finding out what really is going on are so absurdly remote that the only thing to do is to say hang the sense of it and just keep yourself occupied. DA HHGG

Is there a setting to adjust this proximity sensor? This happens to me occasionally and it's really frustrating - so I feel your pain!

a friend of mine also complains about the proximity sensor on his phone.  he says it's not activating (turn off the screen) when held up to his ear.  it just occurred to me that it could be because he's outside in the bright sunlight.  maybe it's angle just so where the sensor is not covered enough from the light.
