I have switched from an Instinct to the Epic.

On the Instinct, when I received voicemail it was downloaded into the phone so I could use the play-rewind-delete functions on the handset.

But with the Epic, I get a message that the VM could not be downloaded and then I need to call the voicemail number and deal with the voice response system.

Is there a way to get the voicemails downloaded to the phone?

I can not seem to find the setting other than "notifications-configure how you are notified" to have the vm messages show up on the phone. Mine shows a list of vm's and never prompts me to log in or call to retrieve. puzzling. Do you have background data enabled in settings?

Today some VM's were downloaded - I wonder why some are and some aren't?

I noticed recently that some of my voicemails were not downloading. I would have an icon that said "voicemail pending" that would stay forever in my notifications until I turned my phone off and on again.

Then, I thought ... I wonder if it's possible that I have too many voicemails on my phone... (I am REALLY bad about deleting them). So I just deleted at least half that I had.

Too soon to tell if that helps my issue or not, but in case it helps someone else I thought I'd mention it.

It may be an issue with your provisioning. You can update your provision profile by going to settings, about phone, updates, update Profile, and that will update your settings directly from sprint to activate things like Data, VoiceMail, Phone Number, etc. This often helps if I get a CDMA Lockup.

But personally, I bypass this issue entirely by using Google Voice APp in conjuction with my Google Voice Account to have FREE visual voicemail with FREE speech-to-text translation.  Works a charm, sets up in minutes, and the Google Voice account is free.  Worth a try, if you don't mind breaking away from the norm.
