I have an Epic 4g galaxy S, the text notification just stopped. I didn't make any changes to the phone it just stopped on it's own. It still vibrates but no sound. The phone still rings, so I know it's not a problem with the sound. To fix the problem I have tried to reboot, removed the sd card and reinstalled it and have checked my settings yet none of these fixes have worked, any ideas?

Are you using the stock sms application?

I believe so... I'm using a ringtone from "Zedge" but it had been working fine for months.

I have had the sound "unlink" itself before from a contact or notification alert.  Just retie it back if you haven't already.

Try moving the contents of your sd card to your pc, format the card, then move all the contents back. Then reset your sounds in settings and see if that fixes it. Use your pc to format the card and unselect "quick format" so it does a full format. I'm thinking sd card corruption. These steps usually correct that.

How do you suggest I "retie" it back? I explained in my original post how I checked the settings (I reset the notification sound) and that didn't work...
