Android task killers explained

The chances of finding out what really is going on are so absurdly remote that the only thing to do is to say hang the sense of it and just keep yourself occupied. DA HHGG

i have had atk installed since i bought my phone, i recently bought an extended yoobao battery and i can tell you that it makes a huge difference when i run atk.  if you put it on aggresive and make it kill tasks when the screen shuts off it makes my battery last a lot longer.  before and after the battery upgrade it made a big diff.

please try to understand that everything you "think" your task killer is accomplishing its not, if you think you see a difference its a placebo affect, this isn't exactly a discussion of opinion its laid out in pure fact, memory management on android devices (a linux based os) does not work the same as the mainstream (windows users for example) are familiar with

God, Every chance I get I tell people to ditch their task killers, since the android os already has a built-in essence of self task management that works just fine.  It's sad though, cause they believe the sprint/att/tmobile/verizon reps at the store who say that it saves battery, and it makes me wanna slap them.

>< at least this forum has it right.

No, no task killer in stock apps. If there was one, you would not be able to remove it. There is a widget called program monitor that i find useful for stopping apps. It will list how many are running, and allows you to close them without having to go back into the app and exit.

With the program monitor widget, should I be "ending" any application that is open after I'm done or does the system run better with a certain amount of apps running?

I would say no unless you have lots running and things are getting bogged down.

If you close the application correctly you don't have this issue. Most cases it's just a matter of pressing the back button a few times to navigate backwards and eventually end the program. The only time this becomes an issue is if you have been doing a lot of surfing on the internet. If you hit the "home" key every time then you will always leave programs running so use the back key instead. This will eliminate 90% of the need to use the program monitor or needing to hold the home key down until the task manager pops up to kill the programs for those who decided to replace the incredibly slow touchwiz.
