The problem that's happening: When attempting to press "End Call", about half of the time, the button on the screen does not respond to me pressing on the button location. I press the area repeatedly firmly, but it's not until about 3-5 seconds later that it seems to finally respond. I am not running any other programs but the standard background applications and even happens after a fresh phone start-up. Anyone else experience this or know what's happening? I sometimes want to hang up when I get a friend's voice mail, but since it takes so long to end the call, sometimes I leave a silent 1-2 second message because of this and it's getting pretty annoying.

That is the EXACT reason that I joined this forum.  Most of the time I CAN NOT end a call.
I have to repeatedly tap end and/or long press. it is very annoying, to say the least.
In fact yesterday I had a 2 minute phone call last almost 90 minutes because I didnt realize the call didn't hang up.  I ended up missing a client's call because of it.  So I am VERY upset about this.
Does ANYONE have ANYTHING for this.

Thanks,

ysgi

I am having the exact same problem.  This is MY reason for joining this forum.  There are times I want to throw the thing across the room!  I usually pop the battery out so I don't leave a voicemail message to the person if they don't answer.  This problem HAS to be fixed.  I really don't want to go back to my i-Phone. HUH?

Does this happen during the call if you move the phone away from your face? It may be the proximity sensor. Perhaps the touch screen insensitivity is due to the screen protector being too thick or something. I do not have a protector and do not have a problem with responsiveness.

The chances of finding out what really is going on are so absurdly remote that the only thing to do is to say hang the sense of it and just keep yourself occupied. DA HHGG

same problem here. unresponsive take call and end call. other day my wife called my three times and i could not answer cuz the take call button would not repsond.

on the same day, the only way i could end the call was remove the battery.

not only is this annoying it is dangerous as well for people rely on their phones in an emergency. guess i should keep my blackberry with me at all times!

anyone get the feeling like this device skipped quality testing?

Same thing here.  I took it to Sprint, they reset my phone, lost all my apps, and the thing still doesn't work!  They told me nothing is wrong with the phone?

My phone will not open if it is plugged in.  Often I can not hang up and answer another call.  Many times a day I can not answer a call, because I can't open the screen.

The funny thing is that the Sprint repair center said the it is likely because I have the screen protector film on the face of my phone. LOL  Oh, and sometimes when the touch screen comes back, it acts demon possessed and starts opening apps and calling weird numbers etc.  Yeah, I can see how a little piece of film on the face will do this. NOT

I too just join due to this very problem, I can make calls just fine but when I take the phone away from my face to hang up the screen is black.  I tap the screen, I press and hold the screen, I run my finger all over the screen, I hit every button on the outside of the phone, I open the keypad, I close the keypad, and still nothing.  If I have to leave a voice mail I have to apologize at the end of it saying that I can't hang up my phone and that I have to remove the battery so you will hear some noise right before the end so just hang up now.  If the screen protector is the problem than why is it that I have no problems any other time?  I guess it's not the screen protector!  I really hope some one fixes this and soon, I'm really getting tired of this!

Sometimes I have the problem that when I take away my phone from my face during a call in order to hang up, put on/off speakerphone, etc, the screen turns on but won't allow me to press any buttons, similar to the original poster's problem. It seems to me that there is some bug that the phone doesn't always come completely out of the phone-by-the-face mode. When I have that problem i just cover the proximity sensor with my finger (or put it back up to my face) and take it away again, and button presses register just fine. I'm not sure what is the difference between the two instances of taking it away from my face, but it seems to work.

I'm having the same issue. I've found that if I hit the power button once sometimes twice the lock screen comes up, and if I'm lucky it will let me unlock it and then push the end call button two-five times and end the call. *sigh*

Same annoying problem here!  I have to mash on the button to end the call.  I haven't figured out yet if its some time delay before accepting my input (maybe to avoid ending the call with my face?) or if it requires a harder or longer press than I am used to doing.   HUH?

One option is to enable using the power key to end calls. That can be done under settings->accessibility. I haven't used it so i'm not sure what happens if, in a speakerphone call, you want to turn on the screen to check a text or something (not a problem in non-speakerphone calls because the screen automatically turns on when you take it away from your face). but it is an option you could try until you find a fix for your problem. I haven't had the problem since the froyo update.
