Here's a link to an overclocked/undervolted kernel at xda-developers. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=786988I haven't used it myself because I'm waiting for 2.2 before I start doing too many tricky things to my phone.

A kernel is just part of what is in a rom. It is the actual base of everything that is running on your phone. You can use Odin3 or clockwork mod recovery to load it to your phone.

Use phoenix kernel instead, also clocked to 1.2 but gets better battery life, also supports interactive govenor for the cpu in setcpu

You can leave stock rom on and flash just a kernel. You need 1 click root and recovery installed to do it. On the road with no links for you but both are found on xda and sdx. All you have to do is download 1 click root and download 1 click recovery. Extract the zip you download to your desktop. Connect your phone and make sure its in debugging mode. Also check the box to enable stay awake. Click run.bat file twice to run it in root. It will reboot your phone. Then do the recovery the same way after the reboot is done. I used the file with "try last" in the name with no problems. To test the recovery hold three buttons: volume down camera and power at the same time. This will boot into clockwork recovery and then you can flash a kernel.

Make sure to choose zip and navigate to the package u wish to install, also once the kernel is flashed ull need to use setcpu or overclock widget off the market to set the max cpu clock higher then stock, the kernels that are overclocked supports these higher frequencies but don't automatically adjust the max clock higher themselves

There is a new rom or called syndicate on sdx. It was created by the android creative syndicate team. I'm not the hugest fan of an overclocked kernel but the one included reaches 1.6g very stable. The rom also removes lots of"junk"off the phone and from themeing the phone is packed with files it doesn't even use. The rom is smoking and available at xda. I'm using the fully loaded sai version.
Use whatever rom/kernel you are comfortable with im just throwing this out there! My quad score today was 1129 and the only 1 linpack I ran hit 13.1

I appreciate all the help and advice. I am hesitant to doing anything since rooting the phone because I don't know a whole lot of the "how to" stuff. Also, since 2.2 is supposed to come out soon, does anyone know if I will have to reroot? Or just do an android update? What will I have to do? Any help/advice would be much appreciated. 2.2 will be completely different and none of this will work on it. No root recovery or roms. They will all have to be ported over. You'll just have to flash stock to get 2.2 if you modded, and do nothing if you didn't. Not sure yet whether sprint will add kies support before froyo or this will be an ota yet.
